New Guitar!
11 Feb 1999

My beat-up old Washburn has served me well in the years since I bought it with my high-school graduation money. But after talking to my friend Kevin Canney, a Madison guitar builder, I decided it was time to move up a level. Now, he's almost finished with a new guitar that's completely customized for me, right down to the Icarus headstock design you see here, and I'm looking forward to trying it out during this round of gigs. Come ooh and aah with me! Or order your own.

Introducing Anna
11 Feb 1999

Drums and bass are nice, but I've always wanted to present my music with vocal harmonies like the ones I add to my recordings. Now, with the help of Anna Belyaev, I can finally perform harmonies live! Anna will be joining me for most of the gigs listed on this card. She knows my songs as well as anyone, so I'm sure she'll make a great addition to the show.

Road Ready for '99
4 Jan 1999

When a record amount of snow (21") fell on Chicago this weekend, I had an opportunity to test my new gigmobile, a four-wheel drive Subaru Loyale. I must say that the little wagon was an impressive performer -- while my neighbors worked to free their cars with shovels and snowblowers, I simply drove over the drifts and away. So I'm actually looking forward to winter gigs this year, even that Northern Wisconsin show in the middle of February. Rock on!

Too Much Light...
4 Dec 1998

One of my weirdest gigs to date came to me unexpectedly this week: I was asked to perform in the lobby before this Saturday night's highly anticipated anniversary performances of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. I'm not entirely sure what that is, but I know it's an important Chicago cultural institution. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days.
